The origin of the allspice tree traces back to Jamaica. Today in Jamaica, the spice is known as Jamaican pepper or new spice. Even Columbus noted the find of this amazing little berry during his second voyage to the New World.
As word spread of this amazing new flavor, allspice cultivation began to spread around the world. We named this particular allspice The Leon, given its origin in Mexico. Leon is a beautiful, large and culturally rich city in Mexico that captures the vibrancy of this beautiful berry. The rich Mexican soil adds a spicy kick to the already-spicy allspice flavor and a subtile note of mocha.

Allspice can be ground into powder, but quickly loses its pungency and should be used quickly once ground. For this reason, we currently offer this beautiful spice in its whole form.
