Currently, the Mexican vanilla bean is one of the most expensive and sought-after beans on the market due to limited supply.
These are grade-A Mexican vanilla beans are grown in the tropics of some of the most nutrient rich and diverse soils in Mexico. When you open the package, you will immediately smell a dark vanilla aroma with hints of cocoa and mocha. Then, when you remove the beans you will smell an earthy bold vanilla with a hint of vanilla spice. If you use these beans to make extract, you will taste and smell a strong, concentrated, sweet vanilla with hints of chocolate, mocha and caramel. It is truly a wonderful and unique vanilla experience. We named this bean The Yucatan after the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula in Southern Mexico.
Given its limited supply, Mexican vanilla it is still one of the more expensive vanilla beans, especially on the east cost of Mexico where hurricanes and adverse weather conditions make growing vanilla a higher-risk proposition.
Grade A Yucatan Mexican vanilla beans are usually between 6" and 7" inches long and have a dark brown color. Typically there are 6-7 of these beans in an ounce. They are perfect for making homemade vanilla extract, home cooking or baking.
